6 TIPS FOR CHOOSING AND PAINTING ACRYLIC PAINT WALLS, CEILINGS AND FLOORS
Rarely what repairs do without the use of paint. Even the window slopes, many of us still prefer to simply paint with a matte white paint. This is not surprising, because this material has a lot of advantages, and for a little money you have an unlimited color palette, thanks to which you can create such a bright and rich interior, as with any other methods of decoration. The paint differs not only in color, but in composition. If earlier at the peak of popularity there were oil paints, today they gave way to acrylic. We understand how to correctly choose and paint acrylic paint walls, ceilings and floors.
1. MAIN VARIETY OF ACRYLIC PAINT AND TIPS FOR SELECTION
Acrylic paint is a water-dispersed paint based on polyacrylates, as well as their copolymers, which are used for film formation. Polyacrylates are polymers of esters of acrylic, methacrylic or cyanoacrylic acid. This type of paint has become most widespread due to the fact that its technical characteristics exceed the properties of other emulsion paints. Used for finishing works both inside and outside the premises. Its main feature is that after drying, the water completely evaporates, leaving only the polymer layer.
There are six main types of emulsion compounds:
Water emulsion – is an emulsion consisting of water, pigments and small particles of polymers, which are the basis. This species is breathable, which prevents the formation of fungi and mold. Has high adhesion values, which prevent its premature peeling and peeling. The color palette is very wide and varied. There are even textured varieties that create a diverse relief. This kind of paint and varnish material is not intended for decoration of premises with a high level of humidity. The maximum that is able to withstand the finished coating is cleaning with a hardly damp cloth or grouting of more serious contaminants no more than two or three times. With frequent friction and water exposure, the appearance loses its appeal, and the damaged area will have to be repainted. By the way, it is very rare to do this without visible transitions. Therefore, it is recommended to use a water-based varnish for finishing premises in which a minimum level of contamination is possible, for example for living rooms or bedrooms.
Water-dispersion compositions, like the previous ones, are able to pass air well, but at the same time, they regularly tolerate regular wet cleaning. Most often, these colors are produced in white, but you have the opportunity to get the desired shade by adding a special concentrated dye. The amount of color will depend on the intensity and color saturation, which allows you to create smooth transitions or gradients. Due to greater wear resistance, this type of coating can be used in premises that are more prone to contamination, for example in the hallway, kitchen, toilet. But for use in a bathroom or in a combined bathroom, this kind of paint, however, is not recommended.
Acrylic compositions that do not contain excess impurities have very high rates of elasticity, mechanical resistance and gas tightness. Due to these properties, it is successfully used for waterproofing works, for example for painting reinforced concrete. Such a coating is not subject to change even with constant exposure to ultraviolet rays. Due to its composition, this kind of paint is even able to clog small cracks and pores on the surface, thereby preventing the penetration of water. The cost of high-quality pure acrylic paint, in comparison with other types, palpable, but it allows you to create good insulation.
Latex paints have an additional element in their composition – rubber, which makes the finished coating very durable, resistant to mechanical stress and elastic. The wall, painted with this kind of acrylic composition, is absolutely not afraid of moisture and direct water penetration, which makes it possible to successfully apply it to paint the bathroom or work surface right next to the sink, besides, it is very easy to remove the dirt from such a coating. A nice matte texture, which has latex paint, has a very attractive appearance and looks much more interesting than glossy. This paint is often covered by special wallpaper for painting, to emphasize their texture and create a protective layer in the form of a very thin transparent film. In addition, the matte coating can visually smooth out small irregularities and shortcomings of the wall. There is also a glossy variety of such a paint, which has an even higher index of moisture resistance and antistatic properties. But remember that gloss is not beneficial to emphasize all the defects of your walls, therefore, it is recommended to apply it only on a perfectly flat surface.
Polyvinyl acetate paints have a very narrow purpose and low
